La Grande headache. It is a condition many
people experience. Cervicogenic and
tension-type headaches are two of the more often
talked about types. The cervicogenic headache is related to issues with the cervical disc, facets, and joints.
The tension-type headache is related to the
muscles of the neck generated by stress or odd
head positioning. Both headache forms are responsive
to gentle, safe stretching type treatment like Cox® Technic used at
Paulette Hugulet, DC, LLC.
SOURCE OF TENSION-TYPE HEADACHE: Neck Muscle, Stress,
Position
Tension type headache is noted as
the second most common health concern around the
globe. A new review of published papers for its care
explained that manual joint mobilization techniques, supervised
physical therapy, acupuncture, psychological care, and patient education were
as beneficial for reducing headache frequency, improving
quality of life, lessening pain intensity, and lowering
stress symptoms. (1) Paulette Hugulet, DC, LLC welcomes La Grande tension-headache
sufferers as well as their fellow cervicogenic headache sufferers.
SOURCE OF HEADACHE: Cervical Joint
La Grande chiropractic patients want to understand
the source of their headache. A current
study noted how researchers used diagnostic
block testing to find the cervical spine joint source of the
headache. Generally, the C2-3 level was the most common
source. In patients whose dominant complaint was headache
over neck pain, the C2-3 was the source for 62%, C1-2 for 7%,
and C3-4 for 6%. For patients whose neck pain was greater
than the headache, C2-3 was the source for 42%, lower cervical joints for 18%,
and C3-4 for 7%. (2) Not that every La Grande headache sufferer
must experience this type of procedure to be taken
care of, but the results were interesting for healthcare
providers to help diagnose and treat headache patients in a better
way.
MANUAL TREATMENT FOR HEADACHE
In a review of published clinical trials, researchers noted
that spinal manipulation was employed frequently
to manage cervicogenic headache. Spinal manipulation was effective, provided
superior, small, short term benefits for decreasing pain,
headache frequency, and related disability compared with other manual treatment.
(3) One relieving treatment referred to as SNAGs (sustained natural
apophyseal glides) has been described in the medical literature.
In a placebo vs SNAG study, researchers found that SNAGs
were effective for pain reduction and neck disability drop
and range of motion improvement for women with cervicogenic headache.
(4) Manual therapy approaches like this help
headache. Paulette Hugulet, DC, LLC uses Cox® Technic, a gliding,
doctor-controlled neck treatment for such conditions as La Grande headache
and neck pain.
