December 2023 Healthy News from Dr. Paulette Hugulet, DC, LLC Relieving Neck Pain Treatment & Exercise
As much as the holiday season brings joy, for some it’s a pain in the neck. Dr. Paulette Hugulet, DC, LLC is here to help! Chiropractic care at our La Grande chiropractic clinic is gentle, effective, and proven to be relieving in a fairly brief period of time. Non-specific neck pain patients reported that they felt that their neck disability was improved after one cervical spine manipulation session. (1) Even for more difficult cases (like the following), The Cox® Technic System of Spinal Pain Management delivers pain-relieving results. A patient with neck pain due to narrowing of the cervical spine foramen and radiating arm pain due to a C6-C7 cervical disc herniation reported less pain and improved function in 10 visits in a month. The patient was pain free and fully functional 8 months later. (2) Another patient with a post-surgical C6-7 fusion experiencing neck pain and back pain stated that he had decreased pain (which fell from 8/10 to 3/10) in 12 visits over 3 months with Cox® treatment. (3) A review of published papers on the effectiveness of manual therapy for chronic neck pain, described as a safe and less painful method to alleviate chronic neck pain, proposed that manipulative therapy reduces the degree of chronic neck pain and neck disability. (4) And most patients don’t have to continue care ‘forever’. A new study wrote that chiropractors do not recommend continued care except for certain types of neck pain patients: only 39% of patients were recommended for care beyond 4 weeks with long duration of neck pain being the strongest indicator for continued care. (5) Our Cox® Technic treatment plan for cervical spine pain is gentle and effective for La Grande neck pain whether it is acute or chronic, radiating into the shoulder or down the arm or centralized to the neck. This time of year, neck pain patients walk into Dr. Paulette Hugulet, DC, LLC every day! We are prepared to help each of them re-discover the JOY of the season!
La Grande CHIROPRACTIC TIP OF THE MONTH: Exercise those Neck Muscles!
Cervical spine pain patients who want La Grande pain relief - relief that lasts - often get it when they add exercise. A simple elastic band exercise program proved effective for non-specific neck pain decrease and better strength of cervical spine flexor, extensor and scapular muscles. (6) To improve neck pain and disability effects, a study found that isometric exercises significantly lowered neck disability index scores after 4 weeks for cervical spondylosis patients. (7) These are simple exercises that don’t take long to do or to have a beneficial effect on neck pain. So good!
