Dr. Paulette Hugulet, DC, LLC Knows Anatomy Well, Knows Your Spine Well
Your La Grande chiropractor understands
your spine! Dr. Paulette Hugulet, DC, LLC understands anatomy. Back in
chiropractic school, your chiropractor learned a lot
about anatomy of the spine and utilizes that knowledge every day. Knowledge of the spine’s anatomy is always
at the forefront of your chiropractor’s mind as you and each spine pain, neck
pain, back pain patient walks into the practice!
It’s so exciting! (Aren’t you happy
someone finds it exciting?)
LEARNING ANATOMY IN SCHOOL
When we were in school, we were
all guilty of learning only to pass an exam. Going
to professional school, such learning is more important
than ever since it will impact everyday work. (How much
do you remember from your high school or college days?) An
international survey of chiropractors and anatomists found
that chiropractors felt that a higher level of anatomy teaching
during chiropractic school was beneficial
for clinical practice, permitting better understanding,
application, and analysis of anatomical information to substantiate
a clinical decision in their daily clinical practice. (1) An Australian report
of chiropractors compared their knowledge of anatomy to that of chiropractic
students. The chiropractic practitioners rated their knowledge of anatomy and demonstrated it in a test
showing their knowledge. This was compared
to the equivalent in their chiropractic student counterparts. The
chiropractors showed that they kept their
knowledge of anatomy - and knew they did! – breaking the thought
that chiropractic practitioners may not retain
it after a period of time. Knowledge of anatomy is utilized
daily in chiropractic practice, and chiropractors know
their anatomy. (2) Your La Grande chiropractor does! Just ask to find out more.
SPINAL ANATOMY KNOWLEDGE PUT TO USE IN CHIROPRACTIC CLINICAL
PRACTICE
Performing spinal manipulation every
day applies knowledge of the spine’s anatomy every day.
The most ordinary reasons people said they
sought chiropractic care were low back pain (49.7%), neck pain (22.5%), and
extremity issues (10.0%). The most common treatment they experienced
were spinal manipulation (79.3%), soft tissue therapy (35.1%), and formal
patient education (31.3%). (3) Spinal conditions receive a great
deal of attention from chiropractic patients and their
chiropractors, of course! But fortunate side effects of
chiropractic care emerge in the medical literature as well
like potential cardiovascular benefit. In a placebo-controlled, assessor-blinded,
randomized trial, researchers described the immediate effects
of manual therapy to the upper thoracic
spine on cardiovascular autonomic control of patients with musculoskeletal pain (ie, back pain, spine pain,
neck pain, etc.). The researchers explained that musculoskeletal
pain intensified the risk of cardiovascular events. (4) Come experience
these benefits of chiropractic treatment based on spinal anatomy knowledge.
